General Purpose Arsenal

Instead of using a mix of .22, 9/10/40or45, .223or7.62x39, 7.62x51/54/63, & 20/12Ga to cover the majority of firearm needs, have a single caliber (38/357mag/358) arsenal. Could hand-load for either the Revolver/Carbine combo &/or the .358Win Rifle. Could possibly use same type of powder & bullets(shot) then choose which of case/primer size desired for purpose. Could minimize logistics and allow salvage of most ~38or9mm bullets and .308 based cases. What do you think?

I'll stick with .22LR/9mm/7.62x39/.50 ML. Easy to buy, relatively cheap, easy to cast/reload.

If I HAD TO do it, it would be the Glock 17 and Kel-Tec SUB-2000, both 9mm, and which both use the same mags (including 33-rd).

Personally I think you should just own as many calibers as possible. Why limit yourself? Buy as many freaken guns as you can afford. Someday they might be good barter items.

Something else I have noticed is that new firearms really retain %80 (0-5 years) of their value in the short term. In the long-term used firearms if kept in good condition will outpace inflation. Firearms therfore in my opinion are a way to store wealth.

I moved out of some gold and silver and into firearms, but I am just as comfortable with my net worth and it's potential to grow.

I also believe in owning guns in many different calibers because if ammo gets hard to get in the future, I'll be able to use nearly anything I can find in at least one of my firearms. If everything you own is in one caliber and suddenly you can't find any ammo in that caliber, you are SOL.

Unless you can manufacture your own ammunition. Reloading and bullet casting is not that hard nor expensive. A person could get completely set up for multiple calibers for less than the cost of one battle rifle.

I'll drink to that ! :coolbeer:

So far, my range is 9mm/40/44/45 in pistol and 5.56/7.62/8mm in rifle.

I like your idea....if you wanted to keep things simple. You might want to just add a 22LR ....that is all......but you could head shoot small game with the 38 special.

I love 357 revolver for the flexibility of loads.

I do own a .358 Winchester in the Model 99 Savage. Fantastic cartridge....good for anything in North America....works great on deer and moose. Would be just fine for the largest bear as well.

You can load "plinker" rounds for the rifle using pistol bullets and even pistol powder.

Nice idea....revolver, carbine, and 358 Win.

But....I have every major calibre you can imagine....

I, like many others on here, also moved from gold to guns, and at the right time! I sold all my gold when it was close to $1K spot prices, and bought some of my "evil" guns before all the Obama hype. I already believe guns are a good bargaining tool, no need to wait. They are in demand more than anything out there currently, and if you hunt around you can get really good deals. I feel comfortable that my investments will retain their value if not increase!

For "general purposes" - 9mm and .45 for handguns and 5.56 and 7.63x39 for rifles. Those are the most common calibers and would be the easiest to find in just about any situation. I also use .40S&W, but it's strictly for competition (IDPA/IPSC); I can use it for SD if I have to, but it wouldn't be my first choice. And of course .22LR and 12g - who doesn't have one of those? :)
